This is a course that examines the politics of beauty and the politics of race, together. They are never not together, really. In the United States, given our particular history, racialized beauty is cooked into our stories, our images, who we see and how we see them, into our laws and into our cultural practices. This is a class where we take for granted that the personal is political and the political is personal.
